Before leaving for their tour of Japan in June 1983, Tangerine Dream played a concert to commemorate the death of Rainer Werner Fassbinder. They played on June 11th at the Alte Oper (the Old Opera House) in Frankfurt, Germany. A prolific director, writer and actor, Fassbinder had been one of the most controversial German filmmakers. The concert lasted only about 35 minutes and is featured on Tangerine Tree Volume 5: Frankfurt 1983 in completeness as an audience recording of good sound quality. It consists of alternative versions of compositions that have been released on the live albums Logos Live (1982) and Poland (1984), plus one track from Edgar Froese's solo soundtrack album Kamikaze 1989 (1982), here in an embellished version with an additional harplike voice. Fassbinder was main actor in the movie Edgar Froese wrote this track for, thus this was a well-fitting finale for this memorial concert. It has never again been performed live by Tangerine Dream.
